York Carers Centre

York Carers Centre originally commissioned a webite from Electroville when it was part of a larger network of regional carers centre.  We built the site using a custom content management system and re-organisation coupled with changes of staff meant that the website initially struggled.

Last year we redeveloped the website as a Drupal site using the fairly standard Pixture visual theme.  This is a Drupal colour theme, meaning that you can changed the colour scheme using settings inside the website iteself so that designer assistance is not necessary.  However, the basic site is only one part of the story.  As part of its carer service, the York agency also runs Young Carers, dedicated to providing support to young people who fulfil the care role.  To improve the appeal to a younger audience, the Centre wanted a different visual brand for the section of the site for Young Carers.  We delivered this using Drupal's Organic Groups modules, which allow you effectively to run a 'subsite' inside your main site, with its own editors, users, and content.  Once you've created a separate group you can also use a different theme for that group.  The Theme we developed was based on a design worked up by us in asociation with York young carers.
