Fulford Nursing Home

Fulford Nursing Home is a family owned and managed nursing home, providing high quality care for the elderly in York. They recently successfully applied to SCIE for a Get Connected grant with a view to providing improved access to information and communication technology (ICT) for residents and staff.

They approached Electroville for help in developing and implementing an ICT strategy which would take into account the various needs of all users. Their aim was to have a suitable system set up which would enable residents to make full and appropriate use of the internet thereby enhancing their quality of life. Staff would be trained to deliver the necessary support and guidance and the relevant technical infrastructure would be put into place.

"We applied for the Get Connected Grant from SCIE and without the help of Colin at Electroville there is no way our bid would have been accepted. He knew exactly how to meet our wish list, he completed all the paperwork required and helped us with all the technical data. Thank you so much Colin and all his team, the Residents are loving it."

 Liz Hancock, Business Manager

Following discussions with Electroville a strategy was put into place which included:

  • Purchase and installation of network with wireless connection for 4 new laptops and 2 new desktop computers.
  •  A technical support contract providing unlimited telephone and remote support plus additional onsite purchased hours if necessary.
  • A training programme to bring staff up to the necessary level of competence and confidence so they can in turn deliver the training programme, along with support, to the residents.

The technical installation took place over 2 days and was quickly followed by meetings to establish a training programme which would meet the needs of residents and staff. Initial training focussed on key staff ensuring that the necessary skill levels were in place in order for them to be able to transfer these over to residents. This was then followed by a residents training day where the staff lead the training supported by Electroville.

“We were keen to ensure that the training provided to both the staff and residents matched with their needs. To this end a bespoke training package was developed and will continue to evolve as we go through the programme. We are also aware of the need to work around the daily routines of both the staff and residents.”

Simon Duncan, Training Manager, Electroville

Further telephone and email support will continue to be provided to ensure that all staff and residents needs are met.
